Continuum

How is online continuing professional development provided through this web site?

There are two forms of courses:

Audio-visual courses
These courses consist of self-paced PowerPoint presentations with an audio voice-over. They are supplemented with handouts - often relevant Advisory Notes - for future reference. A series of self-assessment questions are also available to allow you to obtain 'formal' continuing professional development points.

Text courses
These courses provide an opportunity to earn 'formal' continuing professional development points by reading Australian Institute of Architects publications, including Advisory Notes. Specific publications have been selected and provided online with a series of self-assessment questions.

What equipment and software do I require?

You will need a Windows or Macintosh computer with;

  • An 500MHz or faster CPU and at least 128MB of RAM
  • An Internet connection of at least 56Kb/s (broadband is strongly recommended)
  • Adobe® Flash® Player 7 or later
  • Speakers or headphones

Please contact us if your system doesn't match these requirements to see if there is an alternative method of delivering the course to you.

Do I need to log on to access these online courses?

You will be able to browse this site and the course outlines without logging on.

However, to purchase a course you will need to log on. If you are an Australian Institute of Architects member you will log on as you would to the Institute's web site with your member number and password. Discount prices are available to members.

If you are not a member you will need to create a log in number and password. The website will guide you through this process.

Can these courses meet my obligations to undertake continuing profesional development?

These courses should contribute to your continuing professional development obligations. They will meet the requirements of the RAIA Continuing Professional Development Policy and the AACA/RAIA Joint Policy on CPD. They should meet the requirements of the NSW Architects Registration Board and the West Australian Board of Architects. You will need to review the specific requirements of the Architects Registration Board in any jurisdictions you are registered in.

Each course has stated learning outcomes and relates to the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia's Competency Standards.

How do I pay?

You will need a credit card to pay for a course online. The website will guide you through the process.

Please contact us on 03 8620 3877 between 9am and 5pm Australian Eastern Standard Time or by email to continuum@raia.com.au if you do not have access to a credit card.

Can I return to a course once I have commenced it?

Yes, you can pause a presentation and review earlier material or return to it later. However you must complete the questions in one sitting in order to ensure you retain all your answers.

You will have six weeks to complete the presentation, access the handouts and complete the self assessment questions.

Is there a deadline for completing a course I have purchased?

You will have six weeks to complete the presentation, access the handouts and complete the self assessment questions.

What happens when I complete a course?

When you complete all the components of a formal course you will be emailed a Certificate of Completion. This will also be available on the website under 'My Courses'.

What technical support is available if I require it?

Technical support will be available between 9am and 5pm Australian Eastern Standard Time via email itsupport@raia.com.au or telephone on 08 8236 7456.

What do I do if my sound is not working or too low?

First check that your speakers are turned on and plugged in. You may have to adjust the sound on your computer/monitor/external speakers.

The controls for the sound in the presentations can be overridden by controls for sound in other applications, even if that application is not open. If you have previously been listening to audio and have lowered or muted it, you may have to return to previously used applications and make adjustments, even though that application is currently not running.

If this fails to solve the problem email us with your details, the course you are registered for and the nature of the problem.

What do I do if I can't view the Continuum courses properly?

Please install or reinstall the latest version of Flash. The latest version of Flash can be found on the Adobe web site (www.adobe.com.au).
